On Sunday 15th November, six of the scratch team travelled to Walmley golf club to play the first round of the Warwickshire Cup scratch foursomes knockout.
The conditions were tough, the course was playing long and there was a very strong wind to contend with. Ryan Hinsley and Joe Macilwraith got us underway and they came out of the blocks to go 4 up through 5 holes. They never looked back, some solid ball striking from both and a magnificent putting display from young Joe gave them a comfortable 5&4 victory!
Second off were Michael Pell and George Parker. After a tight start and a few lips shaven, Mike and George took control going 2 up through 7 holes. The putts eventually started to drop and two solid birdies on 12 and 14 gave them a 4&3 victory and a place in the next round!
The third and final pair were Liam Phipps and Kieran Blundell. This was a very tight match with neither pair ever being more than 1 hole up or down. Eventually they ended up with a friendly halve to see the final result Walmley 0.5-2.5 Olton.
A great performance from all the lads on what was a tough winters morning!
We have a home draw in the next round against the winners of Stoneleigh Deer Park and Oakridge. Any support will be greatly appreciated and I will announce the date of the game as soon as I know.
