Ladies Open Competition - Saturday 10 September 2016

Despite the rain and miserable conditions,104 Ladies, representing 27 clubs across the Midlands, successfully took part in our annual Pairs Open competition.

The winners were Libby Carter and Helen Morrell from Rothley Park with an amazing 43 Stableford points! Narrowly beaten into second place were Ros Dawes and Jane Freeman from Redditch with 42 points, in third place were Glenda Loram and Gill Hayward from Maxstoke and Copt Heath with 41 points. For fourth and fifth place the competition scores were so close that a count back was required resulting in Sharon Dixon and Andrea Kiernan from Redditch narrowly beating Ginny Clifford and Clare Lucy from Harborne each with 39 points.
The best front and back 9s were won respectively by Hilary Dixon and Susan McKenna from Olton and Gail Jeacock and Annie Pendleton from Tadmarton Heath and Feldon Valley.
A monster drive saw Yen Pham from Shirley win the longest drive and Maria Jordan from Fulford Heath secured nearest the pin.
All Ladies were extremely complimentary about our course, facilities and the competition especially as this is one of the few Ladies Opens to be played on a Saturday! They are looking forward to playing in it again next year on 9th September 2017.
Many thanks,
Karen and Debbie

Olton Ladies Saturday Open 10th September 2016

A full field thoroughly enjoyed our inaugural Ladies Saturday Open. A dry day with little wind should have made scoring easy in this stableford better ball competition. However, super slick greens and challenging pin positions tested all competitors. They were certainly the main topic of conversation over lunch!!

Jenny Cooper and Moira Page from Glen Gorse obviously had little trouble as they posted the best gross score of the day. A magnificant score of 70 and worthy of the Best Gross prize.

Nearest the pin was won by Karen Johnson of Shirley and the longest drive by Belinda Rouse of Redditch

3rd place: -   39pts  Jane Eadon & Elaine Ebbage, Hinckley on the back 9

2nd place: -  40pts   Bev Belcher & Lara Bates, Olton

1st place: -    41pts  Karen Sharman & Susan Clowes, Wishaw

Congratulations to all prize winners.

Thanks to those who contributed to our raffle - we raised over £500 for the Solihull Marie Curie Hospice.

The day itself was masterminded by Debbie Butlin and Debbie Forbes and thanks to all volunteers who hepled out on the day. There may be one or two minor changes next year but we look forward to welcoming all our visitors again in 2012.

Achievements Away 2016

On a glorious day, Monday 4th July the first ever Ladies Bronze Division Team Championship took place at Coventry Golf Club.  With wall to wall sunshine and a fantastic course to play on, 13 Warwickshire Club Teams of 4 players each competed for this Championship.  Rules stated it was to be a Stableford Format with the top points score of three from each Team to count.

Excitement if not some trepidation from players in this inaurgural tournament, where Bronze Division players in most cases, were playing in this Team format for the first time.  As the scores started coming in, there were some tired and slightly disappointed faces on show, as it seemed that shots into the greens either stopped on the apron rather than running on to the green or if the shots hit the putting surface, then they ran on and on!!  Lovely course in great condition but the greens got the better of many players today.

As usual, some players did manage to conquer the greens with the best Individual score being 35 points, with only a few others in the 30's. The CSS however was raised to 78, Reduction only!!

WELL DONE LADIES !! Gill Creed, Annette Bucknall, Ray Davies and Di Corless
