On a pleasant, but windy, day, the Bill Danter Pairs Trophy was well contested. In the end it was won by two of the more illustrious members of the Working Party, Peter Siddall and Terry Smith, who scored 38 points. (Who says it doesn't help you to be a member of the Working Party)! Mrs Jess Danter was present to give out the prizes in memory of her husband, Bill.
Second place went to Mike Symons and Richard Blasdale, with a point behind at 37 points. Mike told me that they were doing well to the last three holes, when they blew it! And Terry Smith and his partner, Peter, sank a couple of long putts, to seal it.
At the Party after, the Working Party excelled themselves with their rendition of "O what a beautiful Monday" - words by John Molesworth, to an obvious tune. After a number of years we have really got the singers working well! The trio, Tony Sumpter, John Molesworth and Kit Morton gave their own rendition of "Old Golfers" to Moon River, and "The Bandit" to the tune of something else, to rapturous applause - (words again by Sir John Molesworth). With community singing, and Steve Cottier's amusing version of the Senior's alphabet, everybody went home happy.
And so the Seniors season comes to an end - except that we now have a new Captain - Brian Warren - who spoke extremely well of Syd Madeley, with the thanks of the Seniors behind him , as he handed Syd a magnificent cheque. Well done to Syd, and best of luck to Brian!
