Having been given the opportunity to prove himself as a future B Team Captain, I am sorry to report that Ian Sparkes decided his future lies elsewhere as he led our B team to a rather thumping defeat away at Kenilworth.
Our only victors were Gerry Donohoe (fresh from his success in the B Team Medal) with Andy Watkinson who won 2 up. Our next best result was the partnership of John (Jonah) Brady and Harry Kenth who restricted their score to 2 down. Derek Birt and Martin Dalton lost 4 and 3.
The other three pairings - Paul Higgins and David Newman, Keith Phipps and Mike Mayo, Ian Sparkes and Ken Crossland - all lost 5 and 4.
The pressure is now on for our next match at home to Shirley on 4 September. A half or better will ensure we will have won more games than we have lost this season, the current stats being won 9 lost 5 with 4 to go.
The remaining fixtures are Handsworth away 13 September, Fulford Heath home 20th September and finally Robin Hood at home on 4th October.
Our season will be celebrated on Wednesday 15th November at our B Team dinner so put the date in your diary for an enjoyable evening (last year's speaker is unable to attend!)
