The team turned out on an overcast and grey morning at the Warwickshire.
The course was very wet with mud sticking on every ball!
As expected in any final, the Ladbrook team were up for the fight and the OGC lads had to 'play their socks off!'
Mike & George were our last pairing but notched up our first win, Liam & George found it tough going and lost the second match. It was left to Jake & Joe who were first out and although going three down early on, they took the match to the 18th. An approach shot from Ladbrook left a 3 foot put and we needed Joe to chip-in to take it to a playoff. The ball just came up short of the hole and we lost 2-1.
A great performance from the OGC team who made history just being there!
The lads were pleased to see so many followers from the club and although dissappointed, they knew it was an achievement getting to the final.
The Warwickshire Cup was first held in 2000 and is a WUGC matchplay event run through the winter for teams of 3 men’s scratch foresome pairs.
The Olton team, captained by Liam Phipps, after a bye in the first round has beaten Walmley, Stoneleigh Deer Park & the holders, The Warwickshire to reach the final where our opponents will be Ladbrook Park.
This will be played at The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club on Saturday 19th March 2016, tee off at 8.30am.
The Olton team will be;
