The final communique

Hi Ladies

This is it – the final time I’ll be bothering you with my updates before handing over the “badge” to Ray

Been & Gone

We eventually managed to play the Burnett Salver (Easter Mixed 4s) on 9th October with enough couples to make a viable competition – I think the only Mixed comp to get off the ground this year. I very kindly let Ann Barnes borrow my husband for the afternoon so that I was available to play with the Captain. What a mistake that was in more ways than one as the Captain was a no show and Ann went out and won the trophy!! Rob’s already booked her for next year! The Mixed events have not been well supported this year so I hope that next year you will all support Ray and get your names down.

We played the Seniors on Tuesday and the lunch was lovely – I’ll not mention the golf as we lost 41/2 to 11/2! I’d like to thank Joanna & Antonia (aka John Molesworth & Tony Sumpter) who played for the ladies as we were a little low on numbers.

The Annual Dinner & Prize Giving last Wednesday ran as smoothly as ever with our hard working Secretary Sylvia (helped a little by the Pres Lynda) organising the dinner side of things and our long serving Handicap/Comp Sec Liz J (helped by trainee Ann B)sorting all the winners out with their trophies. Thanks to all of you for making sure we had a most enjoyable evening. As well as presenting the trophies I managed to get a couple myself – watch out next year when I’m really going to focus on my golf! – I’ll be aiming to get up to the prize table more times than Anne Turner!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Di & Barrie Corless who have organised the Mixed matches this year. It’s not been an easy task (again not so many sign ups as in previous years) but they’ve done a great job and must be gluttons for punishment as they are doing the job again next year – keep your eyes open for 2017 fixtures and get your names down to play other courses for free and have a sociable meal afterwards (that’s the away fixtures of course!) but it’s just as good playing at home.

 Coming up

Sunday 30th is the In/Out Challenge Match between Ray and I. Names are down already for the golf and meal afterwards and we’ll be doing the draw next Wednesday. If you’re name isn’t down or you’d just like to join us for the Greek themed meal after play sign up soon or let Ray or myself know to include you. We tee off at 11am as clocks will have gone back and we older ladies need as much light as poss out on the course and the meal will be 3ish so that we have time to glam up after play! The aim that day is for fun fun fun!!

Our AGM is on Thursday 10th November at 7pm but we’ll be presenting the cheque to the charity before the main proceedings start so 6.30pm please for arrival. It’s not a long night and it’s also when Ray takes office and we announce your next President so please make every effort to attend – it’s your section please support it and there might even be a free drink knocking around!

Following on from the AGM is Lady Captain’s Drive In (Ray is so looking forward to it)& Lunch(looking forward to that even more!) on Sunday 13th November – her sign up sheet is in the bar – get your names down quickly!

Briefly getting back to golf the sign up sheets for the Winter Alliance Fixtures are now on the board – names names names please – you know how much fun it is slogging around those courses in the winter months!!

News of Members

As many of you know both Eileen and Annette have recently had new grandchildren arrive on the scene. Both of them had health problems but I’m soo pleased to say that they are now doing well and the future is looking much rosier for them all. I’m sure they would both want me to pass on their thanks for all the kind messages and support they received from the OGC ladies.

We welcome back a couple of familiar faces to the Ladies Section – Tess Turner & Penny Silman – we’re very pleased to see you both and happy golfing at OGC

I must congratulate one of our new members – Yvonne Gregory – who joined us a few months ago. Yvonne came to us with a club handicap of 40 and so much enthusiasm she put some of us to shame. She practised (unlike me!) worked hard at her game and what’s her handicap now.........a staggering drop of 11 shots to 30! Well done Yvonne and whose going to get her hands on some trophies next year methinks!

That’s it from me – I am (or soon will be) a “has been” and after 2 years I’m ready for it!!

I’d like to thank you all for the support you’ve shown me over the last 2 years and for making my time as your Captain so enjoyable (most of the time!!) Only joking

 Over & out
