On a damp, slightly dour morning, 36 Olton Hundreds golfers, spurred on by their organiser, Mark Hopton, turned out for their Spring meeting. With a number of new members, the field was a strong one, and the golden oldies knew they were in for a hard time. In the end, the weather held off and we had a good competition.
In the 18 hole competition there were some good scores. David Carter and Geoff Ward were beaten into third place by golden oldies, Jim Wild and John Molesworth, on countback, with a score of 37 points. The pro's, Chris Lavery and David Playdon, came second with 38, and the outright winners were Chris Burston and Richard Blasdale with 39 points.
In the 9 hole competition, Pat Bates and Roy Tapper were just ahead of Mike Padmore and David Cadney,
There followed a lively Lunch, which included some 20 non-golfers, at which the sponsors, David Cadney and Liz Pattinson, gave away the prizes. Mark Hopton also remembered those who had gone before, namely Alan Vining, Malcolm Widall and most recently, Ken Stubbs. A good meeting, in the traditions of the Olton 100's.
