Liam Phipps wins the WUGC Matchplay Championship

What a few days for Liam Phipps ...

On Thursday 21st May at Copt Heath he finished 4th in the Warwickshire Men’s Amateur Championship, thus qualifying for the Matchplay Championship. As part of the champrionship he was also a member of the three man team that won the 2015 WUGC Team Challenge.

Then on Saturday 30th May Liam finished third in the Birkett Barker Trophy (36 holes) at Olton, reducing his exact handicap to +0.4.  Hopefully it will soon reduce further to a 'plus' playing handicap.

But the best was yet to come on the following day when he played in the WUGC Matchplay Championship back at Copt Heath.  In the semi-finals he beat Kieran Blundell (Shirley GC) 1 up then in a very high standard 36 hole final he beat Adam Lumley (Coventry GC) 2 up. The two finalists shared 15 birdies.

Congratulations to Liam.  A great start to the season just got better!
