Copt Heath v Olton
Olton Won 4-0
Monday 25th May
4 Juniors travelled to Kington Golf Club , on the Hereford Borders to play in the 2nd Round of The Royal British Legion knockout competition
After a 2 hour drive, the boys went out full of hope, Both Pairings Joe Macilwraith and Sam Bissell , Andy Hooper and James Bowen both found themselves 2 down thru 2 holes and realised that this was going to be a tough challenge, both pairings finding it difficult to make up ground and at the turn.,with Joe and Sam still 2 Down Andy And James 3 down going 4 down thru 12 , Joe and Sam starting a come back going 1 up thru 16 and hanging on to win 1 up , Andy and James getting back to 2 down the finish was going to be close at the 16th 180 Yard par3 James put his tee shot to 10’ ,with their high handicapper (20) hitting the green and rolling up for a net 3-2 , and James just missing his put for a half , with 17 and 18 to play we needed to win the last 2 holes to force a play off sadly with another shot in the bag Kingtons High Handicapper made 5-4 with Andy and James both missing birdie putts to take the game down 18 it was all over ,Some super Golf was played by both teams in the end we were outdone by a high handicapper playing well above his station
Final Result Olton lost 3 down overall
Olton v Gaudet Luce Sunday 19th May
Olton juniors travelled to Gaudet Luce near Droitwich their first time playing this course ,Local knowledge especially thru the front nine with narrow fairways and undulating greens would make club selection paramount, With some tricky tee shots on the front nine three out of the four games look to be heading only one way, Andy Hooper & newbe Tom Averill, James Bowen & Sam Bissell 2 down thru nine holes ,Ronan Holbeck & Joe Geoghegan 1 down ,Only Jon Chapman & Reece Wyatt looked to be cruising at four up at the turn. Thing started to look decidedly worse after 13 holes with Andy &Tom unable to cut the deficit ,finally losing 2&1 James & Sam going 3 down thru 10, but a good par on 12 and birdies at 13 & 14 and winning the long par 5 17th to go 1 up with 1 to play saw them hang on to take the win. Ronan & Joe looked dead and buried at 3 down with 4 to play but mustered a super comeback winning the last 4 holes, Jon & Reece’s 4 up lead was been whittled away hole by hole , all level thru 17 ,but 2 good drives and decent wedge shots on 18 saw them winning 1 up. Overall result Olton 3 Gaudet Luce 1.A very tight game which could have gone either way Well done to all the boys that played, some great golf played , that’s 4 wins out of 4.Let’s keep that team spirit for our next match which is away to Copt Heath on Sunday 24th May.
Shirley v Olton Sat May9th.
The return match v Shirley found us without Captain Joe Macilwraith. James Bowen & Ronan Holbeck found themselves giving 25 shots to their oponents and lost 2 down. The rest of the team responded brillantly playing some excellent golf. Josh Beer and Joe Geoghegan winning 6&5, Jon Chapman & Reece Wyatt winning 3&1, Andy Hooper and Josh Parsons winning 2&1. Result a win for Olton 3&1.This was a great effort by all and a super team spirit with the lower handicap players giving help to the up and coming newer players.
This was a great away victory making us unbeaten with 3 wins out of 3. Lets hope we can carry this form onto the next match v Gaudet Luce away on Sunday May 16th.
Olton v Shirley Sunday April 26th
On a lovely Sunday Olton Juniors took on Shirley Juniors, with both teams fielding a mix of High and low handicappers it looked as if we were in for an interesting afternoon, and so it proved to be with most matches very close thru the opening front nine hole.
Captain Joe Macilwraith and Sam Bissell looked to be cruising at 3 up thru nine only to be pegged back to 1 up going thru 12 ,Joe Macilwarith then eagles 12 to go back to 2 up and ends the match with another Birdie on 16 to win 4&2
James Bowen and Ronan Holbeck were always fighting to get a bit of momentum going with never more than 1 in it thru the front nine either way .Ronan producing the drive of the day on 12 by putting the ball well past the cross bunker leaving only a short iron into the green ,James Bowen’s birdie on 17 closing out the match 3&1
John Chapman and Reece Wyatt played some steady golf always looking in control running out winners 3&2 .
Josh Beer and Joe Geoghegan Struggled to cope against some strong golf from the Shirley Pair ,even the shot of the day from Josh Beer on the 10th (holing out for birdie from 165yards) couldn’t prevent them losing 3&2
The overall result Olton 3 Shirley 1 which gives us 2 wins out of 2 a great start to the season with the aggregate score now 7 & 1, well done lads
Our Next Match is Away at Shirley on the 9th May I’m sure they will be looking for revenge !!!
Well done to all who played , let’s keep the momentum going for the next match
Olton v Gaudet Luce April 5th
The Juniors first league match of the 2015 season kicked off on Sunday 5th April off with a home match against newcomers to the league Gaudet Luce , Led by Captain Joe Macilwraith in the new Junior team shirts which saw us claim a resounding 4-0 victory ,Joe Macilwraith & Sam Bissell winning 6&5,Andy Hooper & Jon Chapman winning 5&4 ,James Bowen & Reece Wyatt wining 4&2 and Dan Withington & Emily Hung winning 3&2 ,Well Done to all who took part ,Let’s keep that momentum going into our next Match which is against Shirley at home on Sunday 19th April
The first match of the 2014 season was against the Warwickshire at home. Due to conflicts with cricket, football, holidays, and exams we were only able to field a team of 7 players instead of 8. Ryan Hinsley took on the task of playing on his own against two players and giving them 18 and 20 shots respectively. Ryan played brilliantly only to lose on the 18th.Things weren't looking good at the 14th with us down in all 3 of the other matches. George Taylor and new boy Daniel Withington came from 3 down to win on the 18th , Joe Macilwraith and James Bowen,Dhiren Patel and Andy Hooper came from behind to win 3 and 1 to secure a win for Olton. Well done boys and lets make sure we get a full team next match.

In similar circumstances to the Warwickshire match we had won the away match and were looking to win the home match. In the 1st game out Joe Macilwraith & Chris Millbank lost, James Bowen and Josh Beer won 6&4, Ryan Hinsley and Dhiren Patel lost. This left the result to the last match featuring George Taylor and the rapidly improving Ronan Holbeck. With the match all square on the 18th tee we needed a win to half the overall match. The 32 handicap Ronan managed to score a 5 net 4 to win the game and halve the match 2-2 having earlier made a birdie on the 15th.
June 14th v the B Team
Due to exams and work commitments the match was reduced to 8 a side. The Captain for the day was Joe Macilwraith who lead a mixed team of high and low handicap players. From the stories after the match it seems that the higher handicap players did much of the damage to inflict a 3.5 to 0.5 win for the juniors The President Bruce Wilson presented the trophy to Joe Macilwraith

With a full strength team our boys came up against a Copt Heath team that played extremely well to win 4-0
Ladbrook Park Away
The Ladbrook team got away to a fast start winning the first two matches against Mike Pell and Joe Macilwraith 2/1 and Rob farley and Dhiren Patel 5/4. In both matches we couldn't cope with the good play of the Ladbook players whilst giving away a lot of shots. Martin Wingrove and George Taylor kept fighting while never in the lead and pulled back to halve their match with a long putt on the last green. Erika Dean and Ben Westley also fought back parring the last three holes with shots against to win 1 up.
This was the first time we had played the Oakridge course. Alost every one of the par 4 holes has a blind 1st and in many cases a blind second shot that definately gives the home team the advantage. We fielded a team of high and medium handicaps with Erika and Ben Westley being the lowest of either side both playing off 9. Their lowest was 10 and highest 33. Tom Flynn and Joe Macilwraith had a very good day winning 7/5. Jack Dean and Niyamal-Islam Ali halved after their 33 handicap boy sank a 10 foot putt on the 18th to snatch a half. Erika and Harry Parker and Ben Westley and James Bowen lost to give Oakridge the win 2.5/1.5
