Olton Golf Club has been GolfMark accredited since January 2008 .This is a national award that recognises the club is committed to providing excellent golf opportunities for juniors within a well organised and safe environment. It has rigorous procedures in place to ensure juniors can play golf, be coached and practice safely.The club professional and his assistant are qualified PGA coaches, there are 4 junior organisers qualified to PGA 1 level. All of the professionals and the junior organisers are CRB checked and have been trained in the care and protection of children. Boys and Girls from the age of 8 may apply to join the club using the application form in the membership area of this website.
The junior section is very active with nearly 70 members between the ages of 8 and 18. There is a full programme of junior competitions and matches throughout the year. In the last two years we have had 8 boys and girls representing Warwickshire at different age groups. In 2011 Mike Pell won the Warwickshire Schools Championship. Rob Tovey won the Warwickshire junior order of merit title from 1200 boys who competed over the season. In 2011 Olton Juniors won the Central Warwickshire Junior League title. The team of Erika Dean, Rob Tovey, Liam Phipps and Jack Dean won through the qualifying stages to reach the Final of the Royal British Legion Junior Championship at St Pierre Golf Club Chepstow.
Junior girls may enter ladies competitions once they have attained a handicap of 36 or lower. Boys between 16 and 24 may play in adult division 2 competitions, and 15 and lower in Division 1. Junior competitions are run on Sundays and mid week in the schools holidays. There are 6 friendly matches against local clubs and 6 league matches in the Central Warwickshire league each year. There are two matches against the senior and B teams of the club.Liam Phipps reached the final of the EGU shortgame challenge at EGU headquarters at Woodhall Spa.
In order to develop junior golfers boys and girls, the club professional Charles Haynes and his assistant run regular coaching sessions throughout the year for Olton GC junior members. In the summer months (between May and July) the junior organisers run Academy evenings on Mondays for members and Thursdays (18:30 - 19:30) for non members, which include coaching by the professional, the EGU passport scheme and the EGU National Skills Challenge.
