Introduction

Olton Golf Club achieved the GolfMark  award in January 2008.This is a national award that recognises the club is committed to providing excellent golf opportunities for juniors within a well organised and safe environment. It has rigorous procedures in place to ensure juniors can play golf, be coached and practice safely.The club professional and his assistant are qualified PGA coaches, there are 3 junior organisers qualified to PGA 1 level. All of the professionals and the junior organisers are CRB checked and have been trained in the care and protection of children

The junior section is very active with nearly 80 members between the ages of 8 and 18. There is a full programme of junior competitions and matches throughout the year. In the last two years we have had 7 boys and girls representing  Warwickshire at different age groups. In 2009 there were two Olton boys in the top 15 of the Warwickshire Junior Order of merit. Mike Pell went on to win the overall title from 1200 boys who competed over the season. In the same year Olton boys won 10 of the gross or net 1st prizes at the various junior open competitions in Warwickshire. In 2009 Olton Juniors won the Central Warwickshire Junior League title.

Junior girls may enter ladies competitions once they have attained a handicap of 36 or lower. Boys between 16 and 24 may play in adult division 2 competitions, and 15 and lower in Division 1. Junior competitions are run on Sundays and mid week in the schools holidays. There are 6 friendly matches against local clubs and 6 league matches in the Central Warwickshire league each year. There are two matches against  the senior and B teams of the club.

In order to develop junior golfers boys and girls, the club professional Charles Haynes and his assistant run coaching sessions every Saturday throughout the year. In the summer months the junior organisers run Academy evenings on Mondays and Thursdays for members and non members which include coaching by the professional, the EGU passport scheme and the EGU  National Skills Challenge.
