The end of the Senior's 2016 season saw 20 pairs of golfers battle it out for the Bill Danter Trophy over 18 holes and a further 5 individuals compete in the 9 hole competition. Though mild, the morning dawned very dank and murky with intermittent rain though a later direct intervention by Captain Brian saw the sun come out and everyone finished dry and ready for their traditional Christmas lunch. Winner of the 9 hole competition was Kit Morton - of whom we will take this opportunity to thank most sincerely for his many years of sterling work on the Senior's section of the this website.
The 18 hole competition was a close affair with a number of teams recording 39 points. After a count-back, in 3rd place were Malcolm Page and Tony Sumpter and in 2nd place, Arthur Huke and Graham Siddle. But the deserving winners were Ian Gold and John Martin and it was excellent that Jess Danter could join the Seniors to present the prizes. Lunch was followed by a presentation of a cheque for £3,250 to Cathryn Worth of The Giles Trust, Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Hospital - the 2016 Senior's charity of choice. Finally Jeannie Morrison and the "Working Party Choir" led the audience in singing a couple of traditional carols - but with golf-related words - and John Molesworth, Kit Morton and Tony Sumpter provided a tribute to Maurice Chevalier (with apologies).
