The Bill Danter Pairs Trophy attracted a 52 Pairs entry total, the largest event our Senior Section have taken part in. Immediate Past Lady President, Jess Danter, presented the Trophy to the winners, and there were gifts of appreciation to Jess, Jan (our ever so helpful Club Sec), Pat, (who looks after all our spiritual needs), and Trevor, (who keeps us topped up with liquid refreshment).
There was a certain inevitability about the winners of the Competition, when Club Captain Geoff Chaplin found himself drawn with newly-cut John Martin. Despite the efforts of the handicap review committee, they ran out easy winners on 41 points. David Johns and newcomer, Ian Cohen, were second with 36 on countback, with President Terry Smith and Mike Doyle (how did they find themselves together?), third.
In the 9 hole Competition, everyone would have been delighted to see Tony Hazard in the winning enclosure. (Pictures on Senior's Gallery).
At the party celebrations after, Tony Sumpter and John Molesworth treated the assembled multitude to a wonderful rendering of "Underneath the Arches", whilst the Working Party reminded everybody that, despite our normal golfing prowess, we should "Always look on the Bright Side of Life". The entertainment was beautifully enhanced by the professional playing of Mike Padmore, on his wonderful organ, and somone said he could be heard at a Cinema near you shortly! Mike also played a couple of Carols, and Gary Compson added some saxophony to complete a very good day, well organised by Captain Neil Brenton.
